Beer Scoring and the Good Beer Guide
How are pubs selected to appear in CAMRA’s flagship publication the Good Beer Guide, listing the best pubs in the UK?
The answer is it is largely based on beer scores submitted by CAMRA members. If you’ve ever wondered why your favourite pub isn’t in the Guide, this may well be because you, and other members, haven’t entered scores rating the quality of beer there. By beer scoring, you can contribute to the process of selection of pubs that go in the Good Beer Guide.

How do I score my beers?
You don’t have to be an ‘expert’ to begin scoring your beer. However, it is not about your personal favourite beer receiving the highest scores! You may try a beer that isn’t to your normal taste but what you need to consider is the quality of that beer, how well the pub has kept it and served it, and score it according to one of the two general guides below.
The CAMRA scoring method uses a simple six point scale ranging from Undrinkable to Excellent.
You can read more details about the scoring system and how to submit scores via a pub’s entry in the CAMRA national pub database here. Member login to the CAMRA national website is required to submit scores.
Scoring beers is easy and as an added bonus the system keeps a record of your scores so you can look back to see what beers you have had and how you rated them.
If you are unable to submit scores online you may email the details to ku.gro.armac.les@serocsreeb or hand in details on paper at one of our regular branch meetings..
Branch Good Beer Guide entry selection
At the end of each year we download a summary of the number and average of the beer scores received by each of our pubs.
This data forms the core of our Good Beer Guide entry selection process.

Branch Pub/Cider Pub of the Year Selection
We have different processes for selecting our branch Pub of the Year and Cider Pub of the Year.
This is partly because ciders & perries are not part of the national scoring system and there are far fewer pubs serving real cider/perry.
